GOLD JEWELRY

    DISTINGUISHING CARAT and KARAT.

     These two terms have the same reading, so of course there will be confusion about these two concepts.

    What is Carat?

    Carat (ct) is a unit of measurement for the weight of gemstones.

    1ct = 0.2g

    This unit of measurement originates from the determination of diamond mass.  Large diamonds will have a higher value.  However, there are many tablets of the same size on the market.  Therefore, to simplify the assessment of whether a diamond is large or small, people use the Carat unit.  Carat becomes a C in the 4Cs - the price stone standard of diamonds.  Later this unit was commonly used for rocks.  Convert diamond volume and size

    What is Karat?

    Karat (K) is a unit of measurement for the purity of gold, silver, and precious metals in their alloys.

    1K = 1/24 of the total weight of gold.

    For example: 24K gold is pure gold (or 9999 gold), 12K gold contains 50% gold, the remaining 50% is other metals.

    However, 24k gold is very soft, easily deformed upon impact, and is not suitable for jewelry.  Therefore, people have to add some other metals with gold such as nickel, zinc, silver, copper (red), palladium, platinum, to create a harder and more durable "gold alloy".  It is the mixture of gold and other metals that creates different karat indices.  From there, the color of gold also depends on the mixing ratio of other metals.
